SUMMARY:Humanity and the Environment: Moving Exposome Research from Informa
 tion to Action
DESCRIPTION:Students\, researchers and policy makers with an interest in pu
blic health\, environmental epidemiology\, biobanking\, health ethics and
bioinformatics are invited to attend the symposium of the Human Exposome A
ssessment Platform (HEAP) project\, hosted at the International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC) and online on Monday 27 May and Tuesday 28 May
 2024 from 09:00 to 17:00 CEST.\n\nOpen to all (registration mandatory)\, t
his free event offers a panorama of exposome research in 2024 through a wi
de-ranging programme of 17 presentations. The exposome describes the envir
onmental exposures that an individual encounters throughout their life\, a
nd how these exposures affect their biology and health.\n\nThe Symposium h
as a flexible format – and it is possible to attend one or several prese
ntations or sessions over the two-day programme. Online registration is op
 en until 24 May\, and in-person registration is open until 10 May.\n\nThe
Symposium will open with a keynote presentation from Professor Jana Kláno
vá\, the coordinator of EIRENE (the dedicated pan-European Union Environm
ental Exposure Assessment Research Infrastructure). On the first day\, HEA
P researchers will demonstrate how exposome data from wearable devices\, c
onsumer receipts\, cohort studies\, and biological samples can be harnesse
d for scientific insights. The presentations will conclude with a plenary
discussion on the impact and potential of collaborative exposome research.
\n\nOn the second day\, the focus will move to ethics and law\, with three
distinct sessions: “Exposome research and public health ethics”\, “
Governance of research projects”\, and “Future enablers of exposome re
search”. The presentations will cover ethical\, legal\, and governance i
ssues in exposome research\, including the impact of the European Health D
 ata Space\, health equity\, open science and cross-border research\, and h
ow to engage effectively with participants in exposome research projects.\
n\nThe symposium will conclude with an international perspective\, coverin
g biobanking and the new International Human Exposome Network (IHEN).\n\nI
ARC is one of the partner institutions delivering the HEAP project\, which
is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme\, and leads the Wo
rk Package on Education and Dissemination.\n\nRegistration &gt\;&gt\;\n\nD
